Frank Rowe was a first-year art teacher when, along with a small group of colleagues, he was fired by San Francisco State College in 1950 for refusing to sign California's new anti-communist loyalty oath, the Levering Act. Rowe was barred from teaching from 1950 until the California Supreme Court overturned the oath in 1967. His book The Enemy Among Us: A Story of Witch-hunting in the McCarthy Era was published in 1980. Rowe also taught at Laney College in Oakland, Calif. Frank Rowe died in 1985...
